A fourth-generation Financial Advisor, Carter remembers working for his grandfather at the age of 11 and watching his grandfather receive a call from his top client who wanted to buy a couple thousand shares of IBM trading at 300. Since then, he hasn't looked back. When Carter formally started his investment industry career in 1979 with Wheat, First Securities, Carter was one of 60 financial advisors. Though he has witnessed many change over the years in the markets, in the industry and at Wells Fargo Advisors, his commitment to client-service excellence has not wavered. Carter's firm belief in putting the client's interest first is at the forefront of his and his team's success.
Carter has spent most of his career in the southern Virginia town of Franklin, known for a once-thriving Union Camp paper mill. When the company decided to close the mill, Carter sought to help fill the leadership void. With his strong desire to "give back", he is involved in just about every facet of community life and gives back through his time, talents and financial support. He currently serves as the senior warden of his church and is a Dioceses of Southern Virginia Trustee of Funds, a member of the Hampden-Sydney College's Advisory Committee and is also on the Woodberry School's Board of Trustees. While raising his family in Franklin, he was an assistant scoutmaster for 13 years and also has served as the president of the local YMCA.
Carter has earned his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) certification, a credential awarded by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. to practitioners who meet rigorous professional standards. Most appropriately, he received the James C. Wheat Community Service Award, the highest award bestowed upon a financial advisor in 1999. He has been named a top high net worth advisor in Virginia Business magazine, and in 2006, 2007 and 2008 Carter was included in Barron's Winner's Circle publication. Carter holds a bachelor's degree in economics and history from Hampden-Sydney College, numerous securities registrations, and applicable life and health insurance licenses.
Carter is a proud father of two children, Peggy and Allen. In his free time, Carter enjoys traveling.
